Ubuntu 24.04 has been released as Noble Numbat, a long term support release with a five-year support period. This latest version of the distro is built on Linux kernel 6.8 and utilizes the Gnome 46 desktop environment.

Canonical has officially made Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat available. While the release will receive support for five years, users have the option to extend it for an additional five years with a free Ubuntu Pro subscription. This marks the tenth LTS release of the popular Linux distro.

Ubuntu 24.04 is powered by Linux kernel version 6.8 and notably introduces Gnome 46 as its desktop environment. The OS installer has also undergone updates, now based on Google's Flutter framework. This enhanced installer allows disabled users to easily adjust accessibility settings upon installation and provides the option to use installation scripts to maintain consistent settings.

Similar to the installer, Ubuntu's new App Center is also Flutter-based, designed to replace Ubuntu Software. This tool aims to streamline the management of Snaps, which was previously possible through Software Center but less convenient. Additionally, Thunderbird has been transitioned to a Snap package in Ubuntu 24.04, following the same move made by Canonical for Firefox and Chrome.
