Special Prosecutor Appointed to Probe Biden Following Uncovering of Classified Documents

Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed a special counsel to oversee the Department of Justice's investigation into the potential mishandling of classified federal documents by President Joe Biden during his time in the Obama Administration.

Garland made the announcement from DOJ headquarters in Washington D.C., stating that the appointment of a special counsel was necessary due to the extraordinary circumstances of the case. Robert Hur, a former U.S.attorney from Maryland, has been chosen to lead the investigation following the impending departure of the current individual overseeing the case.

The decision to bring in a special prosecutor comes after the discovery of a cache of classified federal documents in a Washington D.C.office previously used by Biden, as well as a second batch found in the garage of his Delaware home.

The exact number and classification of the documents have not been disclosed. During questioning about the discovery of classified materials near his Corvette, Biden assured that he takes classified documents seriously and will address the situation soon.
