In a recent case of environmental crime, the Miami-Dade Police Department's Illegal Dumping Unit has successfully made an arrest. The incident came to light through a viral video showing individuals on a yacht popping balloons and illegally dumping them into Biscayne Bay. Interim Director of MDPD, George A.

Perez, was quick to respond by initiating an investigation.

"Protecting our environment is a shared responsibility within our community," Director Perez stated. "I commend our Illegal Dumping Unit for their diligent work in swiftly resolving this case.

I extend my gratitude to all the involved agencies and the State Attorney's Office for their cooperation in ensuring that these individuals face consequences. Our coastal waters are a vital part of our county's natural beauty, and it is our duty to safeguard them for the sake of our marine life."

Thanks to the efforts of detectives, David Torres-Bocanegra was identified, located, and arrested.

Additionally, 10 civil citations were issued to others involved in the illegal dumping, leading to fines exceeding $25,000.
