The innovative Chinese manufacturer Sipeed is in the process of developing a cutting-edge handheld game console that features a revolutionary field-programmable gate array processor. The key advantage of utilizing an FPGA processor lies in its user programmability.

Sipeed recently shared the first glimpses of the upcoming handheld console. This device will boast a compact 2" LCD screen, integrated game controllers, and the ability to connect to external screens. With dimensions measuring at 100x50x15mm and equipped with a 1500mAh battery, the console is designed for on-the-go gaming. Additionally, Sipeed is also exploring the development of a slightly larger model featuring a 3.5 to 4.5-inch screen.

One of the standout features of this handheld device is its incorporation of a field-programmable gate array processor. The reprogrammable nature of this processor eliminates the need for users to rely on emulators to play classic games. Notably, the Analogue Pocket employs a similar approach with two FPGAs to allow users to enjoy Game Boy and Game Boy Advance cartridges. Sipeed's handheld is set to offer support for Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, and Game Boy Color games.

Sipeed has begun sharing initial designs of the handheld on X, seeking user feedback on preferred materials, colors, and any additional suggestions. The final design of the device is yet to be confirmed. Details regarding the pricing and availability of the handheld console are still pending.
