Developer Relic Entertainment, known for creating Company of Heroes, recently announced a round of layoffs. The studio shared this news on social media following their recent independence from SEGA.

"Earlier today we shared details of a layoff with Relic employees" wrote the studio on LinkedIn. The decision to let employees go was a tough one, made in order to ensure Relic's survival in a rapidly changing industry. It was emphasized that this action does not diminish the skills, passion, or character of those affected.

While Relic did not disclose the exact number of employees impacted, an external producer mentioned in a separate LinkedIn post that it involved 41 people as reported by PC Gamer. This recent round of layoffs comes after the studio let go of 121 employees last year as part of a reorganization.

These layoffs occurred shortly after Relic Entertainment's transition to an independent studio. The company was previously owned by SEGA but was sold at the end of March. Relic is now operating independently with support from an undisclosed external investor. The identity of this investor remains unknown at this time.
