In an effort to boost the economy, Mayor Eric Adams announced that New York City's vaccine passports and school mask mandates will expire on Monday, March 7. This move comes as many cities across the country are relaxing or completely ending their COVID-19 restrictions due to decreasing infection rates.

Adams, speaking in Times Square, emphasized the importance of revitalizing NYC's economy."This is about giving people the flexibility needed to ensure safety and restart our economy," he stated. "It's time to open our city and get the economy back on track."

Initially implemented by former Mayor Bill de Blasio, the NYC vaccine passport system required proof of full vaccination for entry into restaurants, gyms, and other establishments.

While Adams did not rule out reinstating the mandates in the future, he noted that current COVID-19 data supported the decision to lift them for now.He stated, "As long as our indicators show low risk and no surprises this week, on March 7, we will remove the vaccination requirements for Key2NYC venues. We are giving business owners time to adapt while monitoring the numbers to make the best public health decisions for New Yorkers."
