MSI has unveiled the impressive Spatium M580 Frozr SSD. This latest offering, following the Spatium M570, boasts an astounding read speed of 14.6GB/s and a write speed of 12.7GB/s, solidifying its position as the fastest PCIe 5.0 SSD currently available. The Spatium M580 will be offered in capacities of 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB.

Utilizing the same Phison PS5026-E26 controller and B58R Nand from Micron as its predecessor, the Spatium M570, the M580 demonstrates even greater speeds. MSI touts sequential read speeds of 14.6GB/s and write speeds of 12.7GB/s for this new model, surpassing the performance of its predecessor. The M570, in comparison, had a read speed of 12.4GB/s, making the M580 approximately eighteen percent faster. Similarly, the write speed improvement is just under eight percent compared to the M570's 11.8GB/s.

If these speeds are indeed reflected in real-world performance, the Spatium M580 is poised to be the top-performing Gen5 SSD on the market. In February, Crucial introduced their own PCIe 5.0 SSD, the T705, boasting similar speeds with a maximum sequential speed of 14.5GB/s, slightly behind the Spatium. The T705 also offers a theoretical write speed of 12.7GB/s.

The Spatium M580 features a passive heatsink with three heat pipes and aluminum fins, allowing for up to a twenty-degree reduction in temperature, as per MSI. Additionally, the SSD includes a dram cache buffer and SLC cache, although specific details have not been provided by the company. MSI claims the M580 has a higher TBW rating than its predecessor, though the exact terabyte capacity is unspecified. The SSD comes with a five-year warranty and will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB configurations. Pricing and availability have not yet been disclosed.
