KPN Upgrading Optical Network Terminal Boxes for Improved Quality and Reliability

4 months ago 1677

KPN is set to swap out the current Optical Network Terminal fiber optic boxes for an undisclosed number of customers with newer Nokia models. These new boxes from Nokia are said to be more robust and less prone to issues compared to the current Genexis boxes. Customers who are affected by this upgrade are required to schedule an appointment with a technician.

According to KPN, some customers have already received an email from Roamler, the partner company that works with the provider. Customers are instructed to arrange an appointment with Roamler only if they receive a notification to do so. The replacement of the boxes is free for customers and the installation process typically takes around fifteen minutes as per KPN. The exact number of customers who will receive the new boxes remains unknown.

Although KPN has not explicitly mentioned the specific model of the new cabinets, a support page indicates that the company will be utilizing a new Nokia model for the replacements. This aligns with KPN's initiative of providing technicians with Nokia hardware for new installations since last year. At present, customers are using Genexis XGS-PON ONT boxes, which are now being swapped out for the new Nokia models. KPN states, "The new fiber optic box is more durable and less susceptible to interruptions. This ensures that you will continue to have access to the best network in the future."
