Introducing Proton Pass: Enhancing Account Security with Pass Monitor and Dark Web Monitoring

4 months ago 1337

Proton Pass introduces a new Pass Monitor function that autonomously identifies vulnerabilities in accounts and signals any data leaks. Certain aspects of this feature are exclusively accessible to subscribers who pay for the service.

The Pass Monitor feature for Proton Pass includes capabilities such as scanning the dark web to safeguard user data from exposure. The announcement specifies that users will receive an alert if their email address is found on any illegal data market. This Dark Web Monitoring feature is limited to users with a paid subscription, like Proton Plus or the Unlimited subscription, which also offers access to other Proton services. Notably, Proton had already introduced Dark Web Monitoring for its Mail service last month.

In addition, Pass Monitor also searches for weak or recycled passwords for all users, prompting them to enhance account security. Users are informed about accounts that can benefit from two-factor authentication, encouraging them to add an extra layer of security alongside a password.

Pass Monitor incorporates the Proton Sentinel feature, released last year by the Swiss company, which employs AI and human analysts to identify and prevent attacks on accounts. This feature is exclusively accessible to paying subscribers.

Proton Pass is available as an app on Windows, Android, and iOS, as well as a web app and browser extension. The rollout of Pass Monitor will occur gradually, with the aim of being available on all devices by May 10.
