Google's Upcoming Enhancement for Barcode Scanning on Android Devices

Google is currently in the process of developing a new feature that will automatically zoom the camera in when scanning a barcode, such as a QR code, on Android devices. This enhancement is designed to improve the readability of codes from a greater distance, making it much easier for users to scan and retrieve information from barcodes.

This feature is expected to be integrated into Google's code scanner API and the ML Kit Barcode Scanning API bundle. These APIs are commonly used for the QR code scanning functionality found on Android phones, but they can also be utilized by developers to incorporate barcode scanning capabilities into their own applications.

Although an exact release date has not been confirmed, developer Mishaal Rahman has suggested that this feature may be introduced in Android 13. This speculation is based on the fact that Android 13 will be utilizing the ML Kit Barcode Scanning API Library. In fact, there have been reports from users stating that this auto zoom feature is already available in the Google Mobile Services beta, indicating that a wider rollout may be imminent.
