800 patients at the Flevo Hospital in Almere were shocked to find their email addresses leaked due to a mistake on Thursday. The incident occurred when an email was sent out regarding a new app and its functionalities.

The hospital stated that the majority of affected patients belonged to the gastrointestinal and liver department. The email, sent at around 4:30 PM, failed to utilize the bcc function, thus allowing recipients to view the email addresses of others, as reported by Omroep Flevoland.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the leak. Additionally, the hospital promptly notified the Dutch Data Protection Authority about the data breach. In accordance with the General Data Regulation (GDPR), companies and organizations are mandated to inform the privacy watchdog within 72 hours of discovering a data breach.
