Respawn Entertainment has delayed the North American Finals esports event for Apex Legends due to a potential cyber attack affecting several professional players. It seems that these players were unknowingly provided with cheating software during the event.

The game developer released a statement expressing concerns about the compromised competitive integrity of the event. They have promised to release more details at a later time. The Apex Legends community is currently in a state of confusion regarding the situation. It appears that only certain professional players are affected by this issue. In light of this, Forbes gaming journalist Paul Tassi advises caution and recommends refraining from playing the game until more information becomes available, as those found with cheat software could face bans or potential malware infections.

Several videos circulating online demonstrate how professional Apex Legends players suddenly experience the activation of illegal software during the event. For instance, esports athlete Genburten shares footage showing a wall hack being activated, allowing him to see opponents through walls. In another instance, player ImperialHall reveals encountering an aimbot during a match, which automatically targets opponents.

Reports suggest that an exploit is enabling remote code execution in Apex Legends, potentially being abused by malicious actors. The X-account Anti-Cheat Police Department hinted at a compromise within the Easy Anti-Cheat system, but the provider has reassured that there is no vulnerability being exploited within their system.
