Anthropic, a leading AI company, has recently unveiled Claude 3, the latest addition to its line of innovative AI models. This third generation model comes in three versions: Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus. With the ability to summarize texts up to 150,000 words, Claude 3 is setting new standards in the field of AI.

Anthropic claims that Claude 3's Opus model has surpassed competitors such as GPT-4 and Gemini 1.0 Ultra from OpenAI and Google in various tests, including university-level reasoning, programming, and mathematics. Opus, the most advanced and costly model, has emerged as a top performer. On the other hand, Haiku, the smallest version, is praised for being the 'fastest and most cost-effective' model. According to Anthropic, the model is capable of processing a research report with diagrams and graphs in under three seconds.

For the first time, Claude offers support for multimodal inputs. Claude 3 can now process both text and image inputs and has the capability to summarize texts of up to 150,000 words, doubling the capacity of its predecessor. Anthropic claims that the third generation of its language model can understand more context, process longer instructions, and achieve higher accuracy compared to Claude 2.1. Sonnet, the middle model, is said to be twice as fast as the previous generation and excels in tasks that require quick responses.

Anthropic's Claude 3 models have been trained on a combination of publicly available information as of August 2023 and non-public third-party data. The training of these language models utilized hardware resources from Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, with initial investments from both companies. Opus and Sonnet models are now available, with Haiku set to be released soon. Pricing for Claude 3 Opus is set at $15 per million tokens processed, while OpenAI charges $10 for every million tokens processed by GPT-4 Turbo. Sonnet and Haiku models are priced at $3 and $0.25 per million tokens, respectively. A limited free version of Claude is also offered, although availability of Anthropic's language models is currently restricted in the Netherlands and Belgium.
